The Head Massage for Mind & Mood 8 CE course combines calming and gently energizing techniques to support nervous system regulation. This revitalizing approach focuses on the areas where modern-day tension lives: the upper back, neck, shoulders, face, and scalp. Through a sequence of 50 intentional techniques that alternate between soothing and stimulating, participants will learn how to help clients shift out of stress mode and into a state of rest, ease, and groundedness. By supporting healthy circulation and releasing chronic holding patterns in the head and upper body, this work offers both immediate relaxation and a deep sense of overall wellbeing. Techniques are performed with the client fully clothed and seated in a chair, followed by adapted applications for a 30 minute table massage with the client in the supine position.

This massage approach is especially supportive for clients navigating stress, mental fatigue, poor sleep, tension headaches, and mood fluctuations. The alternating rhythms of the techniques help regulate the nervous system, improve focus, ease emotional overwhelm, and support mental clarity. Participants will learn how their work directly influences client nervous systems and how to apply this rich set of techniques to any therapeutic practice.

This course includes some traditional strokes found in ancient scalp massage such as Indian Head Massage but introduces state of the art techniques practiced in modern day western scalp massage. Oil is recommended but optional for the scalp massage. The instructor provides organic oils known for their benefits to the hair and scalp.

What to bring and special instructions: One set of linens. Please have clean hair and use no hair products on the day of the class. If you have long hair, please bring a hair accessory to pull it back. Dress comfortably and in layers. For the table segment it’s best to bring a tank top to change into for receiving the treatment. Please bring water and food to keep yourself fueled throughout the day.

The Best of Head Massage for Mind & Mood 4 CE course focuses on scalp and face massage for calming the mind and creating a peaceful mood, including more than 30 targeted techniques. The massage is calming yet revitalizing and combines effleurage, kneading, friction, percussion and pressure point techniques. Scalp massage supports the nervous system by alleviating stress, encouraging the elimination of toxins and increasing oxygen uptake in tissues. It encourages deep relaxation and can help eyestrain and headaches. Additionally, it boosts hair health, improves concentration by enhancing blood flow, calms the mind and eases emotional and work-related stress.

Participants learn techniques with the client in a seated position, as well as how to adapt those strokes for everyday table work with the client lying in both prone and supine positions. Oil is recommended but optional for the scalp massage. The instructor provides organic oils known for their benefits to the hair and scalp.

What to bring and special instructions:  One set of linens. Please have clean hair and use no hair products on the day of the class. Dress comfortably. For the table segment it’s best to bring a tank top to change into when receiving the treatment.

The Indian Head Massage for Chair & Table 8 CE course is based on an ancient Indian healing system called Ayurveda, which means “knowledge of life”. The modern Indian Head massage combines shiroabhyanga (the original family head massage), champi (more commonly found in barber shops in India) and Japanese shiatsu points. The method is not meant to be curative, but rather preventative and to reduce the progress of prevailing conditions of illness. Indian mothers for over 5000 years have given weekly Indian Head massages to their children. The points balance the chakras and clear energy blockages. This course consists of 50 strokes for the upper back, neck, shoulders, upper arms, face and scalp. They are delivered with the client fully clothed and seated in a chair. The class concludes with a 30 minute, 40 stroke table adaptation segment with the client in the supine position.

While the title indicates only the head being massaged, this massage focuses on the parts of the body most prone to tension and stress: the upper back, neck, shoulders, upper arms, face and scalp. The massage is calming yet revitalizing and combines effleurage, stroking, kneading, friction, percussion and pressure point techniques.

Indian Head massage supports the nervous system by alleviating stress, encouraging the elimination of toxins, and increasing oxygen uptake in tissues. It is a valuable technique for improving concentration and combating stress that can appear in the form of migraines, tension headaches, hair loss, psoriasis or eyestrain.

All strokes can be done without oil if you or your client prefers. The instructor provides Solavedi organic ayurveda oils that can be found at www.solavedi.com (phone: 203-453-1445). There, organic herbs are slowly steeped in oil in an earthen pot for several days over a low flame and poured by hand through natural cloth so each blend is made by hand in the traditional way. Oil strengthens and nourishes the hair, softens the scalp providing for improved hair growth, and increases sebum production which conditions the hair and helps clean the pores.

Indian Head Massage is becoming more popular at spas, nursing homes, hospice settings, airports and for onsite corporate massage. It is particularly helpful for people confined to a wheel chair and for any client wanting deep relaxation.

There are many different styles of Indian Head Massage. The strokes in this course were developed by Lolita Knight, the founder of Chinese Facial Massage, Fijian Massage and Soft Touch Island Massage. Lolita had gathered knowledge from individuals she befriended in the many places she visited (such as Fiji and Tonga) and while living in New Zealand for 25 years. She has added the table segment of the class in response to students’ requests for an adaptation of the traditional seated technique to everyday table work.
